TANYA MOSS

Tanya Moss is one of Mexico’s most sought-after jewelry designers. She opened her first
‘Art in Silver’ store almost twenty years ago and now has 38 stores and sells her designs in more than 100 locations. She emphasizes quality, originality and innovation in her work, which has evolved and matured over her career. In addition to her unique finely wrought silver and gold jewelry, she now also designs leather bags, belts and silk scarves. Her iconic “Tanya Moss Butterfly” motif is present in most of her designs as a symbol of freedom and individuality. She is constantly reinventing herself and experimenting with new techniques in order to keep her work original, interesting and appealing. Recent collections have celebrated the joy and exuberance of Moss’s Mexican heritage, drawing on her rich cultural legacy in a modern sophisticated way. Her Mariachi collection for example, incorporates clever nods to the embroidery of the musicians’ costumes, while the Monarch Butterfly collection adds new dimensions to her signature theme.
Her goal is to create art to be worn as jewelry that radiates a timeless elegance and can be worn and treasured for a lifetime.
Growing up in Mexico City, Tanya was a creative child who made her own jewelry for
friends and family. She studied graphic design in Mexico City and spent a semester abroad at Southern Illinois University (SIU), which has a top-tier jewelry design program. Tanya fell in love with jewelry design, stayed at SIU an additional semester, and won a university-wide jewelry competition. While obtaining her undergraduate degree, Tanya wrote a thesis about building and branding a jewelry company, a vision that she would bring to fruition upon returning to Mexico.
In 1993, after working in graphic design for a few years, Tanya Moss became a  professional jewelry designer. Encouraged by her husband, Eduardo Stolkin, who  recognized Tanya’s exceptionality and passion for jewelry design, Tanya opened her first store at a popular shopping mall in 1996, followed by a second at a renowned crafts market. She founded Tanya Moss in 1997 and the following year Eduardo, who received his MBA from Columbia University, partnered with Tanya in order to help develop the company’s growth strategy. The company expanded to Cozumel, a popular cruise ship destination, and agreements with cruise lines brought thousands of
tourists to shop at Tanya Moss. Disaster struck in 2005, when Hurricane Wilma destroyed the stores and stunted the tourism industry in the area. Tanya and Eduardo returned to Mexico City to rebuild their business, and have since opened 30 stores and an ecommerce site. The duo expanded the company’s product offering, introducing new accessories and developing a corporate line.
Tanya’s work has caught the eye of fashion editors and glamorous elite alike. Her designs
have been worn by Mexico’s most influential women including First Lady Margarita Zavala, and used in editorial layouts in couture fashion magazines as well. Over the last 18 years, the Tanya Moss brand has positioned itself as an industry leader that sets, rather than follows, trends. As an Endeavor member and a 2013 “EY Entrepreneur of the Year” Tanya is a role model of entrepreneurship, and her passion and vision were recognized when she was named one of the 50 most influential women in Mexico.
Tanya also designs products for corporate brands, to be used as promotional gifts. Clients
include Coca-Cola, Samsung, and L’Oreal, for which Tanya Moss designed gift bags. Chrysler requested the design of a themed minivan with butterfly appliquĂ©s, which led to the 2013 release of the Town & Country Tanya Moss limited edition. Her work has been featured in various museum exhibitions as well as Mexican design books. In addition, her collection is sold in several prestigious locations, such as Mexico’s most distinguished department store “El Palacio de Hierro”, next to jewelry by Tiffany and H. Stern; as well as at The Four Seasons Hotel, The W Hotel, The Fairmont Mayakoba and Duty Free stores throughout Mexico. Outside of Mexico, her collection can be found in Japan, the Caribbean and in selected stores throughout the United States, as well as through her online store at tanyamoss.com.
Tanya Moss jewelry lines are sophisticated accessory options for the modern woman,
combining timeless taste with a modern edge. She combines grounded references to Mexican culture with the flirty effervescence of the ubiquitous butterfly motif, creating pieces that are at once classic and contemporary. Tanya continues to produce all of her jewelry, handbags, belts and scarves in Mexico, and most of her pieces are completely handmade. Her success is the culmination of nearly twenty years of hard work, skill and vision.
